Julie Bertrand
Special education teacher, QUÉBEC
The science projects are the ones the students remember the most and learn the most from.
Julie is a special education teacher (orthopédagogue) at L’Épervière elementary school in Rigaud, Québec, who works with children who have learning disabilities. For the past 9 years, she has taught at the elementary level to students of different ages ranging from 8 to 13 years old who have speech problems, dyslexia, behavioural problems, ect. She has taught grades 1-4 and is passionate about helping her students reach their goals.
Four years ago, Julie decided to go for her Masters degree in education and developed a passion for teaching science. Taking what she learned to her classroom, Julie observed that her students were more involved and motivated about learning. Julie now loves to develop projects that include problem solving since «The science projects are the ones the students remember the most and learn the most from.»
Julie’s proudest moment in her career came earlier this year when the entrepreneurial project she developed with a colleague, SACOLOVON, was submitted in the Défi entrepreneuriat jeunesse, and won in her school board as well as at the regional level! This is the first time an elementary project from her school board has won the regional competition.
