I create and facilitate school science and technololgy economy projects in five communities in the Northwest Territories. Five traditional economy programs include year-round trapping, hunting and fishing components that have been successfully operating for the last six years. These programs have brought youth back to school that have dropped out, kept youth in school by providing reward incentives for good behaviour and regular school attendance, and provide Career and Technology Studies (CTS) credits towards graduation. Students acquire respect for the land, respect for other people, survival skills, and a hands-on connection with their traditional heritage.

Several wildlife management projects have been undertaken in Deline, Fort Good Hope, and Tulita over the last five years. These included small mammal capture, tag and release projects, traditional plant use projects and bird and amphibian studies. The most ambitious project undertaken by the Sahtu Renewable Resources Board is the Bosworth Creek Monitoring Project (BCMP); a multidisciplinary high resolution investigation of a northern watershed that involves high school youth, elders, community volunteers from Norman Wells, several post-secondary institutions, and federal and territorial government agencies (please refer to PRO Final Report).

The BCMP has resulted in several original contributions to science including a new stonefly species, identification of ranavirus and chytrid fungus in wood frogs, and the most comprehensive baseline inventory of any watershed in the Northwest Territories. However, one of the most significant aspects of this project has been the development of a partnership between government and non-government organizations to develop high school curriculum and lesson plans for the new Governmen tof the Northwest Territories Experimental Science 30 program (please see EC Final Report).
