We favour an application-based approach in our physics classroom by trying to engage students in as many hands-on and authentic activities as possible.

With Erin Cameron, I teach grade 11 and 12 physics (as well as a combination of grade 9 and 10 and chemistry and biology) at a large high school east of Toronto in Whitby, Ontario.

We favour an application-based approach in our physics classroom by trying to engage students in as many hands-on and authentic activities as possible. For example, we attend Canada’s Wonderland (a large amusement park) to study the physics of roller coasters. Students in both our grade 11 and 12 classes also complete inquiry-based summative projects, including the motor construction project in grade 11, which we will share at the conference.
