"Religion without science is blind; science without religion is lame." Albert Einstein
I am a praying science teacher. Four years ago I returned to my first career as a senior science teacher after retiring from 25 years as a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. For the last four years I have taught Science 10, Biology 20/30 and Chemistry 20/30 at La Loche Community School Dene Building in La Loche, SK. As challenging as teaching senior science is in northern Saskatchewan, I am enjoying my retirement projects. The students are bright, capable and, shall I say, challenging. I particularly enjoy teaching Biology 20, which includes a survey of living things, a fascinating and humbling topic.
I am a graduate of the University of SK with a Bachelor of Arts (major in sociology), a Bachelor of Education (major in biology and minor in psychology), and a Masters of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary (New Testament and counseling). To address tensions between Christian faith and science I like to quote Albert Einstein: “Religion without science is blind; science without religion is lame.”
I am married to Donna Uhrich who is a social worker and manager in the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region. We have two children, Gabrielle who is a teacher and Jannah who is studying to become a nurse.
