Program Developer for TELUS World of Science, Calgary, AB
I am interested in creating opportunities for teens to engage with science and technology in purposeful ways.
It’s my role at the science centre to develop new programming initiatives to coincide with the New Science Centre 2011 project in Calgary, Alberta. I am interested in creating opportunities for teens to engage with science and technology in purposeful ways.
Inquiry. What does it mean? It’s one of those educational phrases we’ve been hearing about. Coming from the science centre, we have a large focus on learning and how people learn. It drives our program development process. In this past year, we’ve really taken a focus on inquiry, and have developed some inquiry training programs, as well as gathered the best resources we could find.
My project will focus on inquiry, what that means, and what the shift is for teachers in their classrooms. As inquiry is a key part of the curriculum for elementary. It’s only a matter of time before it’s mandated for all grades. Inquiry is essentially a shift in HOW one approaches science, and allows for students to make meaning themselves.
